고려 말(14세기)에 들어와 가장 먼저 간행된 성리학 해설서다. 1175년 중국 남송南宋의 성리학자 주희와 여조겸이 편찬한 성리학 입문서로, 북송의 유학자 주돈이‧정호‧정이‧장재의 저서에서 ‘학문의 핵심과 일상생활에서 지켜야 하는 내용들’을 발췌하여 기록했다.

This is the earliest published commentary on neo-Confucianism from the late Goryeo period (14th century). It serves as an introduction to neo-Confucianism, compiled in 1175 by Zhu Xi, a neo-Confucian scholar from the Southern Song Dynasty, in collaboration with Lu Ziqian. The text includes excerpts from the works of the Northern Song scholars Zhu Donyi, Cheng Hao, Cheng Yi, Shao Yong, and Zhang Zai on the core of scholarship and things that should be observed in daily life.
